Girls that Growl filled with unexpected twists

written by: Rebekah Harris in Book Reviews, Marianne Mancusi

After having read Boys That Bite and Stake That, I decided the third in the Blood  Coven series, Girls That Growl, was a must-read.

And I must say that author Marianne Mancusi outdid herself with this one. Filled with some unexpected turns, Girls That Growl opens with Rayne McDonald, vampire and vampire slayer, getting a new assignment–but it’s not the typical slayer assignment. In order to fulfill her duties, Rayne must join the Oakridge High cheer-leading squad. Yes, the cheer-leading squad. So our combat-boot-fishnet-wearing goth must learn to get peppy in order to unravel the mystery behind the growling cheerleaders and the disappearances of two football players. However, there is more to Rayne’s story than just fulfilling her slayer duties.

For instance, her perfect boyfriend Jareth has turned from the goth side and now enjoys being a beach bum more than a creature of the night. And then, there’s her mother’s boyfriend, who moves into the house, forcing Rayne to share a room with twin sister Sunshine. And just when she thinks things are at their worst, she finds out the cheerleaders are werewolves, and she must travel to England alongside Jareth to find the antidote that will stop the girls from changing with each full moon. However, what happens in England may change Rayne’s life forever.

Girls The Growl is a great continuation of the Blood Coven series. With its humor and twists, as well as tackling of important teen issues, Mancusi’s Girls That Growl is most certainly worth the read. I can’t wait for the next in the series, Bad Blood, which I am certain I will enjoy as much as the other three.
